  • A Special Lighting System for Photography
  •
  • Keeping the brightness of dusk, we provide good opportunities for photographers by using pulse light technology. Our lighting system provides successive strobe pulse of 80 times/second. Fish-Owls and human eyes recognize the series of pulse as a steady continuous light. In the other hand, the short and sharp pulses of 1/800 sec prevent motion blur and ensure a sharp image in spit of the darkness of dusk.

The most important point in this special light is to set the shutter speed as 1/80 sec. With this setting, camera captures a single pulse of light within each shtter and freezes the motion of Fish-Owl. The effective shutter speed is going to be 1/800 sec.

If you use a shutter slower than 1/80 sec, you will capture 2 or more pulses within a single shutter and get a double or multiple image. If you use a shutter faster than 1/80 sec, the shutters tend to run between the pluses and you will get many blank images.

All image in this web site is taken using this lighting system with the shutter speed of 1/80 sec. One can find that the effective shutter speed is 1/800 sec and most of motions of Fish-Owl are freezed.

  • Choice of Lens and Camera
  • As the wingspan of Fish-Owl reaches to 1.9 m and the distance is 20-30 m, photographers do not need a very long lens. A 500mm llens for full frame camera or a 300mm lens for APS camera would be adequate to capture iamges in action. At fishing scenes, the motion of Fish-Owl is very quick and the numbers of opportunities are limited, a camera of fast drive would be advantageous

The picture below is an example of non-cropping image taken by 300mm telephoto lens with APS camera.
  • 300mmF4, Shutter Speed 1/80, ISO3200, Sony A77II.
